Beacon Pioneers New Street Marshal Service
The Beacon Group have a long standing relationship with the University of Sussex, with the Student’s Union at Sussex being our very first client back in 2003. Now almost 15 years on we are pleased to announce we are once again partnering with them in order to provide a safe and secure service for students out in the local Brighton community.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights during term time, patrols will be taking to the streets to ensure those in the community are being safe whilst enjoying Brighton’s vibrant and varied nightlife. The patrols will consist of mixed-sex pairings of street marshals, all of whom have received the appropriate training and hold Community Safety Accreditations. The Marshals aim to be there to support students as they go about their night, and will be on hand to offer advice on staying safe and protecting yourself from the Pitfalls of going out late at night.
The scheme has been a roaring success so far, with many of our marshals recounting positive feedback from the local community, business owners and students alike. One piece of feedback the teams are receiving frequently is that this is a particularly fantastic service for those students within the cohort who perhaps have not lived in or even visited a city before. As a newcomer to the area, it is possible to get lost easily and the Patrol teams are always more than happy to direct a lost fresher back to where they need to be to make sure they get home safe.
It is wonderful to be able to work so closely with the community of Brighton and its university and see direct positive results. We at Beacon look forward to meeting many more of the Sussex student body and keeping them all safe.
